Tangle List Update #5: New Links Added July 2019

Updated July 20, 2019

Some of the behind-the-scenes work I do here at Tangle List involves updating old content. What tends to happen is that I’ll stumble across an amazing new link that’s perfect for content I’ve published long ago, and so I’ll quietly edit it in without much fanfare. In this blog series called “Tangle List Update,” I post a compilation of all the links I’ve quietly added over to Tangle List over the last few weeks.

On that note, if you ever come across a link that you think would fit in well here, then please post it in the comments. It’s easy to miss great links in the ocean of content that is the internet, and I’m grateful to all who help me find these wonderful links to share.

Added the following links to List of Official Zentangle Patterns with Step-Outs & Youtube Tutorials:

New Tangle – Doodah

  • STEP-OUT: Doodah Tangle
  • No Youtube tutorials for the Doodah tangle currently exist.

New Tangle Added – Glace

  • Glace Youtube Tutorial
  • Note: There is an unofficial tangle pattern on social media that uses the same “Glace” name. The tangle linked here is the official Zentangle® version of “Glace.”

A quick note about Glace:

Glace is an old official Zentangle tangle pattern with a confusing history. It is not a new tangle pattern, but it is new to Tangle List’s “List of Official Zentangle Tangle Patterns” now that there is a Youtube tutorial by a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher®) for it. What makes Glace confusing is that there is an unofficial tangle pattern on Pinterest and other websites that uses the same “Glace” name. When you search for “Glace” on the internet, you’ll be shown the unofficial version with spirals. The Youtube tutorial linked here is for the official Glace.

Added the following tangle pattern Youtube tutorials:

Miscellaneous Links — Here are a few good links I’ve found recently that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and wanted to share with Tangle List readers.

The Tireless Tangler: 100 Days of Zentangle Youtube Playlist – Cyndee Pelley CZT recently participated in “100 Days of Zentangle” by drawing a different tangle pattern every day for her Youtube audience. Thanks to her videos, I found several new-to-me tangle patterns that I can’t wait to try out as well as some helpful advice. If you enjoy Youtube tutorials or drawing videos in general, check out Cyndee’s channel!

Madge Gill Art – I recently learned about an artist named Madge Gill who produced a prolific amount of pen-and-ink art between 1920-1950. Her art looks like a very early precursor to the tangle art posted on social media now, and she drew most of her art on blank postcards (an old-fashioned alternative to artist tiles). I’m sure many readers will appreciate the parallels between Madge Gill’s work and the tangle art of today.

Zentangle Dingbatz: Patterns & Projects for Dynamic Tangled Ornaments & Decoration – This is a new Zentangle book by Brian Crimmins, CZT that’s getting a lot of positive attention on social media. If you’ve ever wanted to try drawing Dingbatz, check it out.
