I’m a huge fan of Uni-Ball Signo UM-151 gel pens. I order them by the box because I use them for daily journaling and all of my other handwriting needs. So when it recently came time to order another box, I decided to take a look at what other products Uni has to offer. If I loved their Uni-Ball Signos so much, then chances are I’d probably like their other products, too.
Here’s what arrived in the mail today. I paid for it all myself—I’m not getting compensated by Jetpens or Uni for writing this. I just really like shopping for stationery, and find blog posts like this helpful when I do my own online shopping. If you have a specific question about anything listed here, leave a comment. I’ll answer as best I can.
JetPens Haul: Uni Pens, Pencils, & Erasers
Uni-Ball Signo UM-151 0.38 (Black): This is my favorite pen for writing. The pen is comfortable to use, glides across the paper, and uses beautiful, archival-ink. They’re perfect for journaling, and inexpensive enough to use for everyday stuff like writing out shopping lists. They’re worth every penny. Check out the JetPens’ Comprehensive Guide to the Uni-Ball Signo for more details about them.
Uni Hi-Uni Pencil (4B): Reports from around the internet claim that the Uni Hi-Uni pencil is the best pencil ever for sketching and shading. At $2.50 per pencil, it better darn well be. I’ve never used a Uni brand pencil of any kind before, so I have no opinion on that claim (yet).
Uni Mitsubishi 9800 (B): Some reviews claim that this inexpensive line of Uni Mitsubishi pencils is on par in quality with the far more expensive Hi-Unis. At $0.85 per pencil, I felt it was worth testing out those claims myself.
Uni Pin Fineliners (01 & 08): Although I’m a big fan of Uni’s other pens, I’ve never tried their fineliners until now. The Uni-Pin 01 is close in size to the Sakura Pigma Micron 01.
Midori Eraser Dust Mini Cleaner II (not a Uni product): This is a plastic car that sweeps up eraser dust. I’m well-aware of the absurdity of this product, but hear me out. I use an eraser at least once every time I sit down to draw (okay, I usually use the eraser more often than “once”). I’m guaranteed to use this product every time I sit down to draw, which is more use than what most of my art supplies currently receive.
Uni E-Knock Eraser: This is another “I’ll get regular use out of this” purchase. It’s a 5 mm eraser intended for erasing tiny spaces. The eraser is held in a refillable, pen-like tube. Eraser refills are dirt cheap.
Uni Color Pencil Sharpener: Jetpens claims that this is the best pencil sharpener for colored pencils, and it’s only $1.65.
Uni-ball Gel Impact Gel Pen 1.0 mm (Gold): This gold gel pen produced the nicest results (in my opinion) in the Jetpens Metallic Pen test.
Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 Gel Pen (White): I’ve held off on experimenting with white gel pens for a long time because I’ve never been interested in drawing on black paper. Then I saw how white gel pens are used to create impressive shading highlights, and now I want one. I chose the Uni-Ball Signo out of familiarity with the brand.
